FORMER England and Ipswich Town manager Sir Bobby Robson is recovering in a Newcastle hospital today after surgeons removed a small brain tumour.
Sir Bobby, 73, was taken ill two weeks ago while watching Ipswich Town at Portman Road, suspected of having suffered a stroke. But extensive tests showed he had a grape-sized tumour in his brain.
A spokesman for Sir Bobby said: “The operation went very well and the tumour was completely removed.”
He has battled against cancer three times and earlier this year a tumour the size of a golf ball was removed from his lung. He underwent surgery for bowel cancer in 1992 and for a rare skin cancer behind his eye in 1995.
