A annual celebration of locally sourced seafood is underway in Woodbridge.

The sixth Woodbridge Shuck shellfish festival launched on Friday afternoon at the town’s historic Tide Mill.

Local seafood champion Jonathan Simper, whose family farms and fishes from the banks of the River Deben, helped open the weekend’s events and attractions, which include stalls, live music and children’s activities at Whisstocks on the Quayside, as well as special menus at participating restaurants and Sunday’s seafood-inspired three-course Safari Supper.

The Tide Mill reception was fuelled with seafood canapes and oysters, prepared by Stephen David and team from McKenzie David Catering, and a glass of fizz from Adnams Bar and Kitchen.

Weekend fare includes shucked oysters, dressed crab, lobster, whelks, cockles, brown shrimp, crabcakes, mussels and chips, paella and smoothhound ‘hotdogs’.
