Sizewell: Nuclear power plant worker Peter Curd is half the man he was after shedding 13st 9lbs

Peter Curd, a materials controller in one of Sizewell B power station’s store rooms, is among the country’s top weight-loss champions according to Slimming World.

After some of his colleagues suggested the weight loss organisation, he joined his local slimming group in Loddon, near Bungay, run by Debbie Blyth Clark.

Since starting his weight loss journey in January 2012, Mr Curd has lost 13st and 9.5lbs and been awarded his group’s ‘man of the year’ title three years running, before becoming a finalist in the national competition.

He was congratulated by Sky Sports presenter Charlie Webster on his achievement at Slimming World head office in Derby.

The 58-year-old made the decision to lose weight after an annual health check-up at work. He said: “I was worried about my health – my father had diabetes – and when the occupational nurse at Sizewell B said she was worried about my weight, I thought it was time to do something about it.

“When I first walked through the doors of my Slimming World group, I was worried that, as a man, I’d be the ‘odd one out’. It was nothing like that though.

“Everyone was very friendly and made a big effort to make me feel welcome.

“The support from the group and my colleagues has really kept me motivated to lose the weight and keep it off.”

We are really proud of the incredible effort Peter has put into adopting a healthy lifestyle – he is an inspiration to us all.”
