One of Suffolk’s most popular farmers’ markets is set for a bumper event this weekend, when more than 40 producers of artisanal food and drink descend on it.

Snape Farmers’ Market has become known for its vibrant community feel and for curating an exciting collection of makers, who bring the site, on the edge of the river Alde, to life every month.

The annual Christmas market is almost a mini food festival, with most of the producers attending having been present at Aldeburgh Food and Drink Festival in September.

On Saturday, December 23, from 9.30am, feast your senses on the goodies laid before you at the event, where you can sample and buy myriad gourmet treats to squirrel away for the week of Christmas celebrations ahead.

Buy a wedge of Suffolk Gold, which will look glorious on your cheeseboard, the paste underneath the rustic rind gleaming a buttercup yellow. Alongside it, look out for the magnificent raw milk cheese Baron Bigod, which will stand head and shoulders above any supermarket brie, and is divine served at room temperature with a drizzle of local honey and a twist of black pepper.

The brave should take home a chunk of Suffolk Smokehouse’s smoked, chilli hot cheeses too.

And there’s a buffet of salamis, cured meats and more from Lane Farm, The Lamb Charcuterie Company and The New England Boar Company.

If you’re not having turkey on Christmas Day, go see the folk at the Kenton Hall Estate stand, who’ll be selling prime joints of the family’s tender, grass-fed Longhorn beef, ready for slow roasting.

And for Boxing Day, how about hand-raised pork pies from Boyton Old School Farm and Kitchen, or a delectably tender venison shank pie from Truly Traceable?

Last minute present ideas will be found too, with homemade cream fudge (including dairy-free and goats’ milk varieties) from Ailsa’s Fudge, bean to bar chocolate from Tosier, and exquisite artisan truffles and caramels made with Suffolk honey and cream from B Chocolates.

That’s just scratching the surface – with loads more to see and buy on the day.

It’s the ideal opportunity to shop local and support Suffolk businesses for the final time this year.
