A MAN is due to appear in court today charged with killing his father.

Michael Leahy, 34, of no fixed address, will be appearing at Colchester Magistrates' Court, charged with the murder of 56-year-old Liam Leahy.

Mr Leahy's body was found in a flat in Military Road, Colchester, by ambulance crews at about 2am on Friday.

A provisional post-mortem has revealed the cause of death to be head, neck and facial injuries.

Leahy, who is in custody, was arrested on Friday.

A 33-year-old woman from Colchester was also arrested on suspicion of murder but has now been released and no further action will be taken.

The two were arrested in the Old Heath area of the town at around 10.30am.

The victim is thought to have lived alone and has been described as being “friendly” and a “nice guy”.
