A primary school student is counting down the days until the Bury St Edmunds Round Table fireworks display after winning an artwork competition to be the VIP.
Maria James, a pupil at St Edmunds Roman Catholic Primary School in Bury St Edmunds, will press the all-important button to start the annual spectacular display and will join mayor of St Edmundsbury Terry Clements on stage in front of thousands of spectators at Abbey Gardens.
She was chosen as the winner of an artwork competition run in every primary school in the town.
A spokesman for Bury St Edmunds Round Table said: “The competition was so good that expert judging help was required from Hannah Nield, head of art at Sybil Andrews Academy, who had the difficult task of picking a winner.”
The display takes place on Saturday, November 4, from 5.30-7.30pm. The event has raised thousands for charity over the last 40 years.
