Doctors, nurses, healthcare teams and support staff at a hospital in Bury St Edmunds are re-affirming their commitment to patient safety by adding their signatures to a giant pledge.
The signing at BMI St Edmunds Hospital is part of a BMI Healthcare-wide focus on continual improvement in patient care, with teams considering what changes they can make to further enhance the service they provide.
Maria Vella, medical advisory committee chair and consultant gynaecologist, said: “This hospital-wide pledge cements the efforts of all members of staff, at all levels, who work tirelessly on behalf of our patients to achieve this.
“We work together and encourage a culture of transparency whereby we all continue to learn and commend openness. As a consultant, I work within a team of highly skilled professionals, whose private practice is a direct reflection of their NHS practice, reaffirming the five pledges. These signatures are not just names on paper; they are a visual representation of a culmination of hard work and staff collaboration, strengthening our commitment to the continual improvement of patient safety.”
In 2016 BMI Healthcare was the first private hospital group nationally to join the NHS’ Sign Up To Safety campaign, with its five pledges of putting safety first, continually learning, being honest, collaborating and being supportive.
