Star Wars art director Alan Tomkins is the latest celebrity to donate a work of art for the ‘art for action’ sale in aid of children’s charity Action Medical Research.

Mr Tomkins, who was nominated for an Oscar for his work on The Empire Strikes Back, has given the organisers of the sale at Copdock Hall a signed print of the original designs for his snowspeeder, which featured in the hit 1980 movie. The technical drawing, which shows detailed plans for the Rebel Alliance vehicle, will be auctioned on the night. There will also be artwork and pieces by Dame Ellen MacArthur, Maggi Hambling CBE and Esther Freud displayed and up for sale on October 15.

Tickets are priced at £20 for the sale, which takes place from 6.30pm until 9pm. Fizz and canapés will be served, and a donations bar will offer beers and wine. To book, visit action.org.uk/art-action
