Officials behind the Stars of Suffolk awards are urging people to make nominations for the fire service.

The hunt to find this year’s Star of Suffolk has started, but nominations for those in the fire service are lacking.

The Stars of Suffolk Awards gives you the opportunity to nominate someone ordinary who has done something extraordinary.

It could be that they go above and beyond to help others, make outstanding contributions to their community, have shown extreme bravery and courage or someone who makes a massive difference to the lives of others.

The awards have 13 categories which include, outstanding bravery, young person of the year, sporting achievement and four categories for the emergency services.

This includes hospital/ambulance medical person of the year, search and rescue team, police hero, and fire service.

The Stars of Suffolk Awards were launched 10 years ago by Mick Parker, managing director of Parker Communications.

He praised the work of the counties fire service and described the work they do as invaluable. He said: “We launched awards ten years ago with the precise aim of recognising real heroes and heroines in our community.

“There can be no better example than the wonderful service provided by Suffolk Fire and Rescue. The only problem we face when trying to recognise these wonderful people is the reticence they have to nominate themselves.

“They consider what they do to be ordinary and just part of the job.

The fact is they save lives every day and often go above and beyond the call of duty to assist in all manner of incidents across our wonderful county.

He added: “We therefore need the help of the wonderful people of Suffolk to make nominations.

“If you or anyone that you know has been assisted by Suffolk Fire and Rescue, please let us know. It might be that the incident concerns a road traffic accident, a flood, a domestic fire or an incident at work.”

A panel of judges will look at the nominations and create a shortlist of three finalists from each category.

Each finalist will be invited to attend the awards ceremony at Trinity Park on November 9.

Nominations for the awards close on Friday, October 13.
