A pub in Woodbridge which lost its historic weighbridge six months ago is to be rebuilt.
Work will begin next week to restore the grade one listed weighbridge at Ye Olde Bell and Steelyard Pub.
The structure was hit by a lorry back in April destroying much of the structure which hung out from the pub and over New Street.
Now the steelyard, one of only two in the country, will be getting a complete rebuild to recreate its iconic design.
Scaffolding will be put up outside the pub next Monday to allow the work to commence.
One side of New Street will be closed off during the work: while parking will be suspended on the other side to keep traffic moving.
Huw Thomas, the tenant landlord of the pub, said he was glad that the steelyard would be returning: “It’s one of the main sign posts.
“People see that and it pulls them up the street.”
Despite the structure having been down for nearly six months, the pub has continued to suffer near misses from passing vehicles coming too close to the pub.
County councillor for Woodbridge Caroline Page said that traffic calming measures were required to prevent future incidents in the town: “We still have not got funding for a 20 mile an hour zone.”
