A 12 day bike ride from the bottom of England to the peak of Scotland has raised more than £4,000 for charity.

Stephen Robson set off on his journey from Lands End on May 6 and reached John O’Groats on Monday.

The head chef at the Suffolk Food Hall, Mr Robson is also a member of Hadleigh Cycling Club and had set himself the target of raising £2,600 for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices.

“I have been a keen cyclist for many years and wanted to take on this iconic Lands End to John O’Groats route,” Mr Robson said.

“I wanted to challenge myself and feel a sense of achievement at the end – which I certainly did.

“It was a gruelling, intense ride and certainly the toughest thing that I’ve ever taken on – I’ll be glad to get back to the kitchen.”

During the ride Mr Robson’s supporters had been tweeting using #GoStevie to motivate him while the Suffolk Food Hall also followed his journey on its blog.

Mr Robson said he decided to support the charity after visiting its Treehouse hospice in Ipswich.

“When I saw the work of the staff and the excellent facilities I knew it was EACH I wanted to support.

“I originally planned to raise £2,600 so to smash this target and raise £4,000 is just amazing!”

Patsy Johnson-Cisse, EACH Suffolk fundraiser, said: “We’d all like to say a huge congratulations to Stephen for completing his personal challenge.

“The amount of money he has raised is fantastic.

“We care for young people with life-threatening conditions across Suffolk and support their families.

“Without the fundraising effort of dedicated individuals such as Stephen we would not be able to continue these vital services.”
