AFTER months of planning the annual StowFest music event in Stowmarket scheduled for today was postponed on the morning of the event due to the poor weather.

Stowmarket Town Council, the main organisers of the event, made the difficult decision after waking up to rain and cloud this morning, coupled with a poor weather forecast.

Daniel Harvey, public services manager with the authority, said: “We are all gutted at having to postpone the event and we apologise to all the stallholders, bands and everyone involved for having to take this decision, but we had no choice.

“As well as the risk of causing water damage to the sound equipment there is obviously a big hazard using electrical equipment in the rain.

“Plus it would be no fun for the bands, the performers or the stallholders being out there in the wet. A lot of work has gone into organising StowFest and we don't want all that work to go to waste so of course we will be rescheduling. A lot of people would be disappointed if we didn't.”

A new date for the event will be decided next week.
