A brass band from Stowmarket will be taking a tour of France this April to mark 100 years since the end of the First World War.

Mid Suffolk Brass are joining five other groups from across the region to form ‘Anglia Brass’, which will perform three concerts across three night in Amiens and the Picardy area in northern France.

For the first concert, Anglia Brass will join French band L’Orchestre de Cuivres d’Amiens in Villiers-Bretonneux. The group will then move on to perform two solo concerts in Dury and Mers-les-Bains.

The 32 players will also be invited to attend a civic reception with the Mayor of Amiens.

Band members will also pay a visit to the Thiepval war memorial, where they will lay wreathes in memory of fellow musicians who gave their lives fighting.

Musical Director Melvyn Stammers said the tour will be a great opportunity to bring musicians together.

Anglia Brass will meet for just one rehearsal before they travel to Amiens, due to take place in Ipswich on March 27.
