Vulnerable residents in two Stowmarket streets are being offered extra protection from cold callers thanks to a new initiative.

Suffolk Trading Standards and Suffolk Police have set up a new “No Cold Calling Zone” in the town in a bid to deter rogue traders from operating.

The zone protects people living in Hamilton Way and Crown Street, who have previously been targeted repeatedly.

Janet knight, a Fair Trading Officer from Suffolk Trading Standards, said all entrances to the two streets were now fitted with signs identifying the zone.

Double glazing sales firms, power companies and other organisations have also been informed that their representatives are not welcome in the area.

Mrs Knight said: “At all the entrances into either of the streets there are signs telling people they are entering a ‘No Cold Calling Zone’ and every resident has a sticker that they can put in their window to remind visitors.

“We always let them (double glazing companies and power authorities etc) know when we have set up a new No Cold Calling Zone.

“We also have a rapid response team that can get out there and talk to any cold callers that ignore the signs.”
