Generous shoppers have been piling trolleys high with groceries for a food bank’s awareness day.
People going into the Asda supermarket in Stowmarket were given a shopping list of all the items needed for the town’s food bank.
Stowmarket Foodbank manager Mike Smith said five large trolleys had been filled with the goods donated. He said: “It was fantastic; the people of Stowmarket were generous.
“We have regular food supplies coming in from the community, businesses, charities and councils but this one-off special day has just boosted our stocks.
“We have had an increased demand and because of that we have been sending out more than we have been receiving over the last two weeks.”
Volunteers clad in the food bank’s green T-shirts were at the supermarket for four hours.
The foodbank was launched last year by TV cook Delia Smith who lives in the Stowmarket area.
