A popular lawn bowls club in Stowmarket welcomed its very first visually impaired member at its open day last weekend.
The Stowmarket Rookery Bowling Club held its annual open day on Saturday, April 15, featuring bowler tasting sessions and a sociable BBQ.
Chris Brooks, one of the committee members, said: “It was a dull drizzly day but the open day was a great success with a packed clubhouse.
“The president Carol Pybus opened the day by bowling the traditional first wood. There were several new visitors at the opening, taking advantage of the free bowler taster sessions and the club’s new £35 bowler membership scheme.
“Among the new members was Rookery Bowling Club’s first visually impaired bowler who had an exciting afternoon in competition with sighted bowlers. Everybody commented on what a great day it was and the day finished off with everybody enjoying the BBQ and a drink at the bar.”
