A LOAD of straw has been spilled across the Dock Spur roundabout at Felixstowe after a trailer being pulled by a tractor overturned.

One lane on the roundabout was blocked, affecting traffic heading to Ipswich, and police were on the scene co-ordinating the clean-up operation.

Twenty bales of hay fell on to the carriageway where the Port of Felixstowe Road meets the Ipswich-bound carriageway of the A14.

The tractor did not overturn in the accident but the trailer was left lying on its side and its load was spread across the road.

The driver, believed to be in his 20s and employed by a farm in the east Suffolk area, escaped unhurt and was talking to police at the scene.

Speaking at the scene, Pc Jerry Abigail, of Suffolk police's roads policing unit based at Martlesham Heath, said: “The driver has stated that he was coming round the roundabout having missed the turning for the A12. As he drove round the load has gone over.”

The driver declined to comment at the scene.
