Social workers, housing benefits staff, rent collectors, librarians, refuse collectors, dinner ladies, teaching assistants, cooks, cleaners, architects and surveyors will be among those taking industrial action.
The scale of the impact in this region is not yet clear, but the strike looks set to have a crippling effect on schools and local services.
