Two kind-hearted students from a Suffolk school have been praised for organising a Christmas present collection for children who have fled the ongoing conflict in Syria.
Cassandra Barbosa and Amelia Thomas, from Castle Manor Academy in Haverhill, handed out toys, bears, games and books to the Syrian Vulnerable Person Resettlement Programme in Cambridge following their collection.
Tutor Paul Gardiner said: “Cassie and Amelia are two students that truly embody our school vision of working hard and being kind.
“This gesture from them will go a long way to making many young people very happy in a situation that could undoubtedly be terrifying and intimidating.”
The girls raised awareness in the school community and were able to collect 35 presents which they wrapped and donated.
Vanessa Whitcombe, headteacher, said: “Our young people always amaze me and they were driven to do this project completely by themselves.
“With the support of their form tutor it has been a huge success. We are very proud of them.”
