THE 63 mile Ken Wright Memorial road race near Colchester featured a successful 58 mile break by Basil Moss of Cambridge CC and Simon Asher of VC Norwich.

Their lead was never more than 90 seconds and the bunch sometimes had them in sight, but, remarkably, rival teams never quite got things together to close the gap completely. Malcolm Smith (ST Ives CC) followed up his strong showing in the Tour of the Dengie Marshes by clipping off the front of the bunch to seize third place while Finchley RT riders dominated the sprint, Lee Rowe, Trevor Burke and Dieter Rowe taking the next three places.

West Suffolk Wheelers teenager Alan Trolove had a busy weekend which in which he was third in the Under 16s race in the Eagle RC criteriums at Hog Hill and next day was 13th in the Youth field at the Midlands XC mountain bike races near Stoke on Trent. Trolove is from Bury St Edmunds which will be the starting place for a stage of the Tour of Britain on Friday 17th September.

Nino Piccoli travelled from his Red Lodge home to win the hotly contested Team Swift 25 at Ranby in south Yorkshire in 50:57, helping to erase the memory of his TTW/Pedal Revolution team failing to finish in the Antelope RT 50 km team time trial the previous day.

Richard ORourke (Flitch Chrono) wnhe Elite CC ten miler at Leaden Roding in 21:46, ten seconds ahead of Tom Morris (Cambridge University CC).
