Man jailed over break-in at Caffe Nero, Sudbury

A drug addict who caused more than £6,000 damage when he broke into a Suffolk coffee shop and tried to force open the safe has been jailed for ten months.

Stephen Clark was arrested after the alarm at Caffe Nero in Sudbury went off and his DNA was found on the safe, Ipswich Crown Court heard.

An estimated £5,000 damage was caused to the safe by an attempt to force it open and a further £1,000 damage was caused to an external rear door, said Robert Sadd, prosecuting.

Clark, 39, of Edmonton admitted burglary with intent to steal on May 18.

Alan Richards for Clark said his client had committed the offence to get money to buy drugs.

He said Clark needed to rid himself of his addiction to illegal drugs if he was to stop reoffending in the future.

Today we can finally reveal the names of the people selected to be on our first ever Inspiring Women of Suffolk list.

This is a list that Suffolk should be proud of - 100 women who are positive role models for future generations, women who have achieved success in a diverse range of fields from business, the arts, sport and education to the third sector.

The list was put together by a panel of judges this summer after we asked readers for their nominations.
