Police are continuing their enquiries and renewing their appeal for information after receiving a report from a woman that she was sexually assaulted in Sudbury at the weekend.

The woman, who is in her 30s, reported the incident to police on the morning of Monday, March 24, stating that she had been sexually assaulted in the early hours of Saturday, March 22.

The woman had spent the evening of Friday, March 21 out with a friend in Sudbury town and became separated from her friend while at a nightclub in East Street.

After viewing CCTV footage from the club, it is understood the woman left the club at around 2.05am on Saturday.

The victim’s next recollection is waking up in a rural area at around 3am, an area that has been identified as an area along Brundon Lane in Sudbury.

The woman was in a dishevelled state with injuries to her body.

The victim asked for directions back to town from people working at a local business and then it is understood someone may have assisted her in getting back to the East Street area of Sudbury.

A team of officers are working on the case and specialist trained officers have been working with the victim to get a clearer understanding of what happened and when.

Police are keen to trace the person who helped the woman get back into town.

Searches around the area in Brundon Lane are being carried out today by search officers.

Detective Inspector Kevin Hayward from the Joint Norfolk and Suffolk Major Investigation Team said: “We are gradually piecing together the movements of our victim in the early hours of Saturday, March 22.

“The area around Brundon Lane in Sudbury, which has been identified as the area where she woke up will now be subject to a search to try to help us establish what happened and who was responsible for sexually assaulting her.

“We are very keen to hear from the person who assisted her and brought her back into town. Enquiries are ongoing today and our victim will continue to receive support from our specialist trained officers.

“Incidents such as this are very rare in Suffolk and we would like to reassure people living locally that we are doing everything possible to identify who committed this offence.”
