A 19-year-old man from Sudbury has been banned from driving for two years and given a 12-month suspended prison sentence after he failed to stop following an accident.

Lewis Connell, of Lille Close, Sudbury, appeared at Colchester Magistrates’ Court earlier today in connection with a crash in Colchester on April 14.

Officers pursued the driver of a BMW estate who had been in collision with a VW Golf on Hythe Hill and failed to stop following the incident and when requested to by police.

Connell pleaded guilty to careless driving, failing to stop when required by a police officer, driving without insurance, driving while disqualified and failing to report an accident.

In addition, he was also ordered to pay £200 in costs, participate in a rehabilitation programme and undertake 120 hours of unpaid work.
