SUDBURY’S one-way system ground to a halt this morning following a collision between an articulated lorry and a car.

The accident involving a BOCM Paul’s agricultural lorry and a dark blue Volkswagen Polo happened around 10.20am at a junction on King Street. The car blocked the road preventing traffic from flowing from Station Road, Cornard Road and Girling Street.

No-one was hurt in the collision. A witness said: “It was a miracle there were no injuries considering the size of the lorry and it’s also surprising there are not more accidents at this junction, given that there are no obvious road markings showing who has priority.”

Suffolk County Council highways department recently spent 60,000 on traffic calming humps on King Street, metres from where the accident occurred.
