Sudbury street collection for tsunami and earthquake victims
Street collections in Sudbury town centre have been organised to help victims of the tsunami and earthquake in Indonesia.
The Rotary Club of Sudbury were collecting in the town centre on Saturday and will be back on Thursday to raise money to buy shelter boxes, which will sent out to help with the disaster.
Shelter boxes can vary depending on the needs of the families in crisis but usually contain a tent, cooking equipment, mosquito nets and water purification kits.
Each box costs around £600.
A total of £706.66 has been collected so far and it is hoped that Thursday’s collection can match this amount so that two shelter boxes can be purchased.
Tony Platt, Sudbury Rotary Club president, said: “We are incredibly grateful to the people of Sudbury and district for their support of this appeal.
“All money raised will go direct to help people who have lost everything.”
