A trucker has spoken of his disgust after witnessing a man taking a “selfie” in front of an elderly motorist being tended to by paramedics on the A14 in Suffolk.

The trucker, whose profile name is Roymondo, took to the TruckNet forum to vent his anger after witnessing the disrespectful photographer at the scene of the accident,

It happened in the westbound carriageway of the A14 at Bury St Edmunds on Monday morning.

Roymondo, who was near to the site of the accident, said paramedics arrived quickly and soon had the casualty out on the road.

The medics could be seen performing CPR while the man’s family watched and were “obviously distressed”.

“Needless to say, drivers in the trapped traffic were soon out of their cars and watching what was going on,” Roymondo added.

“I can sort of understand this natural curiosity. But then I saw one of them actually taking a selfie of himself with the CPR still going on behind him.”

Roymondo asked what the man could have been thinking to have acted in such a way. He suggested he would have then posted the selfie on social media.

The driver being tended to, a man aged in his 70s, had suffered a suspected heart attack.

A volunteer critical care paramedic (CCP) from the Suffolk Accident Rescue Service (SARS) charity attended the crash.

The SARS CCP worked with a team from the East Anglian Air Ambulance to treat a male patient, thought to be in his seventies, at the scene. “The patient was later taken to hospital in a critical condition,” a spokesman said.

The East of England Ambulance Service said two ambulances, an ambulance officer, the air ambulance and a basics doctor attended.

“A man, age unknown, was taken by road to West Suffolk Hospital with a suspected cardiac arrest,” a spokesman added.
