Six centenarians at a Suffolk care home have celebrated the birthday of the latest member to join the 100 club.

Betty Taylor marked her century at Grove Court in Woodbridge yesterday with tea and cakes in the company of friends, family and staff.

She became the home’s sixth resident to have notched up three digits, joining fellow centenarians Olive Moody, Lily Bachelor, Isabel Yonge, Jesse Webb and John Spalding.

The home’s general manager Helen Jones said more than 10% of Grove Court residents were now aged 100 or older.

“I think it’s a reflection of how we are all living longer,” she added. “When people are supported well they can age well and continue enjoying life. All of our centenarians are still quite active and I think that’s part of what enables them to live so long - they enjoy taking part in activities at the home.”

Mrs Taylor will be having a second party with family this weekend.
