Tesco, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s Aldi and Lidl shops across Suffolk have taken drastic measures to protect vulnerable shoppers from the effects of mass panic buying.

After social distancing advice on March 16 and direct instruction from the Prime Minister to remain indoors wherever possible on March 23, supermarket shopping has changed.

Item limits, dedicated shopping hours for key workers and vulnerable people, limited delivery slots and screens at checkouts have been introduced.

Here is a full list of all the supermarket restrictions so far:

Tesco

• All items are limited to thee per person

• Items such as toilet paper and those containing paracetamol are limited to two person

• Tesco Extra, Express, Metro and Superstores typically open Monday-Saturday 10am-6pm, Superstores and Extras open Sunday 10am-4pm

• Tesco Express Kesgrave opens 6.30am, Tesco express Southwold opens 8am

• Social distancing policies are in place at checkouts

• On Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 9-10am, staff are asking shoppers to respect an hours shopping for older/vulnerable people

• On Sunday 10-11am, staff are asking shoppers to respect an hours shopping for NHS workers

• Shoppers have been urged to come into supermarkets if they can to leave delivery slots for the elderly or those self-isolating

• As of March 27, online orders are now limited to a maximum of 80 items

Morrisons

• All items are limited to three per person

• Social distancing policies are in place at checkouts

• Customers are being asked to use ‘contact-free’ payment methods, such as paying by card, contactless or smartphone

• Supermarkets open Monday-Saturday 8am-8pm, Sunday 10am-4pm

• On Monday-Saturday, 7-8am, only those wearing their NHS badges can come in to shop

• Morrisons Daily shops open Monday-Saturday 6am-12am, Sunday 7am-11pm

• Cafes are now takeaway-only

• On March 23 the supermarket introduced ‘simple-to-order’ food packages available for online orders

Sainsbury’s

• All items are limited to three per person

• Toiletries like soap and toilet roll are limited to two per person, as well as long-life milk

• Open Monday-Saturday 8am-8pm, Sunday 1am-4pm

• Monday-Saturday 7.30-8am, NHS staff with ID cards can enter shops as a priority

• On Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 8-9am, older/vulnerable people and carers enter shops as a priority

• Ipswich (Upper Brook Street) and Colchester (Priory Walk) open Monday-Saturday 8am-7pm, Sunday 10.30am-4.30pm

• Sainsbury’s Local open 7am-11pm every day with no NHS or older shopper priority

• Cafes in supermarkets are closed and staff redistributed across shops

Asda

• All items are limited to thee per person

• Rotisserie and pizza counters have closed to redistribute staff across shops

• Asda shops now opening Monday-Saturday 8am-8pm

• On Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 8-9am, NHS staff with ID are priority customers in larger stores

• Social distancing measures in place, with hand sanitiser available at entrance and exits and screens to be installed at checkouts

• Customers are being asked to use ‘contact-free’ payment methods, such as paying by card, contactless or smartphone

• Cafes and deli counters closed and staff redistributed across shops

• Number of customers in any shop may be limited when necessary

Iceland

• Colchester (St Johns Walk), Ipswich (Tower Ramparts) and Lowestoft open Monday-Saturday 8am-6pm

• Dovercourt, Felixstowe, Frinton, Hadleigh and Haverhill shops open Monday-Saturday 8am-7pm

• Bury St Edmunds, Colchester (Turner Rise Retail Park), Colchester (Stanway) and Newmarket shops open Monday-Saturday 8am-8pm

• Food Warehouses in Ipswich and Lowestoft open Monday-Saturday 8am-7pm

• All shops open Sunday 10am-4pm

• All Suffolk and north Essex branches’ first hour of shopping dedicated to older/vulnerable shoppers

• Iceland supermarkets, NHS staff get priority in last hour of shopping

• Food Warehouses, only NHS staff allowed for first hour of trading

• Online orders for older, vulnerable or self-isolating customers only

Waitrose

• All items are limited to thee per person, excluding fresh fruit and vegetables, Easter confectionary and alcohol

• Toilet roll limited to two per person

• First hour of shopping dedicated to older/vulnerable shoppers

• NHS staff with ID will get priority checkout service and access to proportion of “hard-to-find” essential products

• Cafes and coffee bars in supermarkets are closed and staff redistributed across shops

• Social distancing measures in place across shops and screens to be installed at checkouts

• Number of customers in shop may be limited

Aldi

• All items are limited to four per person

• Nappies and baby products limited to two per person

• From Sunday, March 29, NHS, Police and Fire Service staff with ID can browse from 9.30am before shops open at 10am.

• From Friday, March 20, shops are closing at 8pm to allow more time to restock shelves

• Social distancing measure are in place across shops, including contactless payment and screens to be installed at checkouts

• Number of customers in shop may be limited

Lidl

• Product limits specific to each shop

• Both Ipswich shops open 8am-10pm Monday-Saturday

• Both Felixstowe shops 8am-9pm Monday-Saturday

• Other shops may also have different hours, but Lidl’s UK website reporting shops with open 8am-8pm unless otherwise stated

• All shops open 10am-4pm Sunday

• Contactless payments encouraged and screens to be installed at checkouts

Ocado

• Online delivery service open again after closing due to unprecedented demand
