COUNCIL tax in Suffolk is to rise by 50p a week to pay for county services including education and social care.
The 2.4% increase, the lowest in the authority's history, means the authority will have to find efficiency savings of �9.3m, leading to increased collaboration with district councils and the National Health Service in the county to avoid duplication.
However, there will be no compulsory redundancies among staff. Jane Storey, the council's deputy leader and portfolio holder for resources, says the rise is less than the increase in the old age pension but will allow for extra cash to be spent on social care for the county's increasingly elderly population.
