She has Braved the Shave and lost her hair to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support – and will be hoping to swell the coffers of the charity at the meeting.

Her shave took place at the Hopsters specialist beer and spirits store in Ipswich’s St Nicholas Street where proprietor Steve Long completed he new look with a “Number One” shave after her friend Suzanne Williams had taken off her long hair.

Ms Bole said: “I know five people who are fighting cancer or who have suffered from it. I lost my niece to breast cancer – and I have seen the great work that Macmillan do to support people who are suffering from the disease.”

Ms Williams’ partner Bob Bennett is currently undergoing chemotherapy after being diagnosed with cancer for the third time.

Ms Bole works at Ipswich Borough Council and is known for her long hair.

She said: “This is the first time I have had a major haircut like this for 30 years. I’ve had trims of course but this is the first drastic change. I can’t think what I’ll look like.”

At the start of her re-style Ms Williams carefully cut off her long hair so it could be sent to the Little Princess Trust which makes real human hair wigs for children who have lost their hair through cancer treatment.

As the hair came off she admitted it started to feel strange not to have her hair covered: “I hope this weather continues to get warmer. I don’t want snow to come back at Easter with no hair!”

She was invited to lose her hair at Hopsters by her friend Mr Long after he heard about her plans to support the charity.

And she came fully prepared – with a hat to keep her head warm as she headed home at the end of the cut.

Brave the Shave is a fundraising campaign that has been very successful for Macmillan – giving fundraisers a high-profile way to raise money for the charity.

So far in 2018 more than 13,000 people have Braved the Shave for the charity raising more than £5m which is used to support people suffering from cancer. To support Ms Bole visit her fundraising website
