Seven of Suffolk’s local authorities have outlined measures to help tackle roadside littering, after securing £10,000 from the government’s Litter Innovation Fund.
Alongside the central government grant, each council is putting in £500 to a series of measures which they have collectively agreed.
Among them will be a new advertising campaign featuring banners at known littering hotspots, trialling a new style and colour of bin at problem areas, additional wheely bins in public locations, monitoring of lay-bys and targeting littering at petrol pumps.
Devices will also be trialled which are fitted to the lids of wheely bins and send a message to a phone or computer when it is nearly full.
A monitoring period has been taking place over the summer for the new measures, with more updates expected once the findings of that trial have been assessed.
