PEOPLE across Suffolk and north Essex have been urged to attend Remembrance Day services in their communities tomorrow and show their support for members of the Armed Forces.

Events will take place in most towns and villages, with major services scheduled for locations including Ipswich, Bury St Edmunds and Colchester.

In Ipswich the Remembrance Day service takes place at the cenotaph in Christchurch Park at 10.30am. The Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Suffolk and the mayor and, along with other civic leaders, members of the Armed Forces, veterans, cadets and members of the public, will observe a two-minute silence before wreaths are laid.

In Bury St Edmunds the parade starts at 10.40am at Angel Hill with wreath-laying at the war memorial at 10.55am, followed by a fly-past by an Apache helicopter from Wattisham, and then a service at St Mary’s Church at 11.30am

And today there is another service in the Abbey Gardens from 2.30pm. It will be preceded by a civic procession led by mayor of St Edmundsbury Tim Marks from the Unitarian Meeting House, along Churchgate Street, Crown Street, past the Norman Tower into the Cathedral precinct to the Rose Memorial.

In Colchester ceremonies will take place at the war memorials at the cemetery and the town centre. Town mayor Christopher Arnold said: “I would encourage members of the public to attend this important ceremony at Colchester Cemetery, where a number of soldiers are buried, as well as the traditional Remembrance Day service outside the Castle gates, which includes the two-minute silence from 11am.

“The growing numbers attending this service in recent years is a mark of the public’s increasing respect and concern for members of Britain’s Armed Forces, which I welcome, as do they.”

Long Melford’s parade starts at Chemist Lane at 10am, moving off at 10.25am before a church service at 10.30am.

In Sudbury the parade starts at 1.45pm from Market Hill, progressing to St Gregory’s Church on the Croft for a service at 2.30pm.

The parade in Woodbridge will assemble in Theatre Street at 10.30am and march to the memorial at 10.50am before the act of remembrance, two-minute silence and laying of wreaths at 11am. There will be a parade and short service at the war memorial in Saxmundham while in Leiston the parade will march off at 10.30am from the cadet centre in Victory Road to St Margaret’s Church where the wreath-laying and act of remembrance will take place at the war memorial. The parade will move into the church for the service.

Halesworth’s procession will leave the library and head to St Mary’s Church for a service at 3pm, after which wreaths will be laid at the war memorial in the arboretum

In Stowmarket there will be a parade from Red Gables at 9am to the Market Place, where the salute will be taken ahead of a remembrance service at St Peter and St Mary’s Church at 9.30am.

In Aldeburgh there will be an Apache fly-past at 11.03am, shortly after the two-minute silence at the war memorial, which will be preceded by a civic parade and service.

The village of Ixworth is also staging a service which starts with a march from the fire station at 10.25am to St Mary’s Church.

Lowestoft’s annual Service of Remembrance at Royal Plain begins at 10.45am, with the traditional two- minute silence at 11am.
