A series of strikes organised by the Fire Brigades Union will take place later this month as part of a national row with the Government over changes to pensions.

Action has taken place throughout the year in Suffolk and Essex with cover across both counties being reduced while the strikes have been taking place.

Firefighters will be walking out twice a day between August 9 and August 16.

Each period of strike action on those days will take place between noon and 2pm and from 10.59pm to 11.59pm.

A spokesman for Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service said: “We will implement a reduced contingency service in the 16 periods of strike action. 999 calls will be answered as normal. Our first priority remains to protect our communities.”
