Police are warning motorists to take care on the roads after a night of heavy rain across parts of Suffolk and Essex.

Officers described driving conditions on the A12 Colchester bypass at the Eight Ash Green junction as “hazardous” due to surface water.

A spokeswoman for Suffolk police said they had received reports of standing water on roads in parts of the county including mid-Suffolk but that most highways are still passable.

She said: “There is a lot of water on the roads this morning but we don’t know of any major flooding. We would just urge people to be careful.”
