Power has been restored to all homes in Suffolk and Essex that were cut off after stormy weather and heavy winds swept across the region, officials have today said.

Some 150 homes in Suffolk were still without power on Christmas Day morning after engineers worked to reconnect 3,380 properties following Monday’s storms which saw high winds and debris bring down power lines.

At the height of the storm a total of 2,115 homes in Essex were without power on Christmas Eve.

However a spokesman for UK Power Networks has today said that every home in Suffolk and Essex has been reconnected.

The spokesman said: “When the storm struck, power was initially interrupted to about 300,000 customers, but engineers restored supplies to most within three minutes and the East of England was back to normal by Christmas Day.”

In a seasonal gesture the company had offered to buy Christmas dinner for anyone left without power yesterday, and had been appealing for restaurants and pubs with spare capacity to contact them.
