Temperatures reached a warm 27C in parts of Suffolk and Essex today – with forecasters anticipating hotter weather to come.

Jim Bacon at Norwich-based Weatherquest said a weak front had introduced fresher air over East Anglia in recent days, which had kept temperatures cooler than the scorching highs of last week.

Despite that, Charsfield and Cavendish in Suffolk, and Writtle in Essex all recorded highs of 27C.

And Mr Bacon said the temperatures were likely to build over the coming few days.

“For the time being, everything has quietened down,” he said. “So we’re not seeing the extreme temperatures of last week. However it will warm up over time.”

Conditions are expected to remain warm and dry over the weekend and into the start of the week.

However Mr Bacon said there was a “chance of thunder storms creeping into the south eastern corner” of the region, by Tuesday evening into Wednesday.
