Six crews were called to Little Blakenham, north west of Ipswich, after a fire destroyed a combine harvester and 20 acres.

It came during an especially busy period for Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service, which has been called to major blazes across the county, many of them in crop fields, as the “tinder dry” conditions pose challenging conditions.

With temperatures expected to reach 30C today and the warm weather likely to continue throughout the weekend, the service is reminding people to be “fire aware in this extended dry spell”.
