Suffolk Industrial Archaeology Society will learn about the history of local brewer, Tolly Cobbold, at their next meeting on Wednesday, January 10.
Brewing in Ipswich was once dominated by Tolly Cobbold, an amalgamation of two family-run brewers, Tollemache Brewery and Cobbold Brewery.
The two merged in 1957 to form Tolly Cobbold and brewed at the Cliff Brewery in Ipswich until 2002 when brewing finally ceased at the site in Cliff Quay and the business was sold to Ridley’s in Essex.
The brewery became derelict and is still awaiting redevelopment.
Mick Farrow will talk about the history of the business at the meeting in the Ipswich Transport Museum in Cobham Road at 7.30pm.
The talk is open to members and non-members alike.
Although free to attend, there will be a collection to cover the costs of the talk. For more information, call 01473 405116.
