Luke Read gave Suffolk the lead with just two minutes played and a deflected Ben Garnham shot made it 2-0 after 15 minutes.
Adam Marriott pulled a goal back two minutes later for the visitors, who then wasted a succession of good opportunities to draw level as goalkeeper Tom Ross pulled off some fine saves.
