UNSETTLED weather is likely to continue into the new year as weather experts predict more downpours to round off a particularly wet December.

Up to another inch of rain is forecast before next week, following a month in which an above average 2.6in of rainfall has already been recorded at the observation station in Wattisham.

Temperatures will remain mild for the time of year and are predicted to hover around 6C – slightly chillier than the 10C highs logged in recent days.

Chris Bell, director of public relations and meteorologist at Weatherquest, said: “It will stay unsettled into the new year and the risk of flooding will persist in certain areas.

“Going into the new year, it looks unsettled and breezy.

“Some nights will come with the potential for frost, but there has been no sign of a cold snap.”

An unusually wet month completes a year of erratic weather, following a spring drought and washout summer, bringing first hosepipe bans and then floods and storms to the UK.

Yesterday the Met Office issued a landslide warning, following advice from the British Geological Survey, as continued heavy downpours sparked fears of unstable cliff faces.
