People are being urged to take extra precautions ahead of a nine-hour Fire Brigades Union strike tomorrow.

The action will take place across the country and is part of a national row over controversial changes to firefighters’ pensions. The strike will take place from 10am until 7pm.

Fire cover across the county will be reduced this period and fire chiefs are asking people to take certain steps to reduce the risk of fire.

These include ensuring smoke detectors are working, avoid the use of candles and naked flames, dispose of smoking materials with care and taking extra care when driving.

Further strikes are also planned for each day from July 14-21.
