A teenager was asked to handover his wallet and withdraw money from a cashpoint by a suspect he believed was carrying a knife.

The robbery happened yesterday in Raeburn Road, Ipswich, shortly after 8.30pm.

The 17-year-old victim was walking down the road when the robber approached him and demanded his wallet, which he handed over.

The robber took a bank card from the wallet and told the teenager to take money out of a cashpoint.

However, the victim then punched the robber in the face, grabbed his wallet and ran away.

He saw what he thought was a knife handle in the robber’s pocket - but there was no attempt to use it.

The robber was white, in his early 20s, and about 5ft 9ins tall, of skinny and athletic build.

He was wearing a grey hooded top with the hood up, and a black item of clothing covering the lower part of his face.

He also wore baggy tracksuit bottoms with three white stripes down the outside of both legs.

His Adidas trainers had a white sole, grey toe material and black plastic detailing.

He also had gloves on both hands, although the right one appeared to be fingerless.

Anyone who saw the incident or any suspicious activity should contact Ipswich CID on 101, quoting crime reference 37/14278/18.

Alternatively contact the charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
