The A14 heading westbound has been re-opened by Police after it was closed due to a large oil spill.

Police were called to the spill, caused by a sugar beet lorry, at about 6.05pm this evening.

The slippy surface prompted Suffolk police to close much of the exit ramp at junction 40 at Coalpit Lane, near Higham.

They also helped direct traffic along the A14 as the oil spill made up to a quarter-of-a-mile of carriageway dangerous to drive on.

At the time the closure meant that there was no access to Barrow from Higham.

Thankfully Suffolk highways were able to clean-up the spill.

Suffolk Constabulary have since re-opened the road and left the scene at 9.40pm.
