A POLICE ‘day of action’ has seen 250 vehicles stopped with 32 penalty notices issued and two arrests made.

Two men were arrested on suspicion of possession of a Class B drug. A 25-year-old man from Lakenheath faced no further police action and Sean Hedley, 23, from Queens Road, Brandon, was later charged with the offence. He will appear at West Suffolk Magistrates Court on Thursday March 14.

Two vehicles were seized under Section 165 of the Road Traffic Act for having no insurance. Two drivers were reported for summons for driving vehicles found to be in a dangerous condition. 16 people were searched under the Misuse of Drugs Act and a vehicle was seized after being found to contain red diesel, with the owner receiving a fine of £520.

Detective Chief Inspector Bernie Morgan said: “We are extremely pleased with the success of the operation, which has sent a clear message to anyone thinking of using our roads in their attempts to commit crime.”

Police teams used number plate recognition technology to pull over the vehicles.

Officers were joined by colleagues from police forces across the eastern region and by partners HM Revenue & Customs and the UK Borders Agency.
