A young man was walking home from work in the early hours of Sunday when two males threw him to the ground, kicked and punched him and stole his phone.
The 19-year-old man was in The Avenue at around 3am when the attack happened.
He had his phone stolen and sustained facial injuries in the attack.
Suffolk police is appealing for witnesses to the attack to get in touch.
Anyone who witnessed the robbery, saw any suspicious behaviour or has knowledge of the incident is asked to contact Bury St Edmunds CID on 101, quoting crime reference 37/53134/18.
