Organisers of a set of adult learning courses attended by thousands of people across Suffolk are celebrating a top Ofsted rating this week.

The community courses, run by Realise Futures Learning and Development, were rated ‘Good’ by inspectors in a new report.

Realise Futures run more than 100 courses at six learning centres across the county, in Bury St Edmunds, Stowmarket, Ipswich, Lowestoft and Newmarket.

Operations Manager Deborah Williams said: “It’s satisfying to know that the learning which we provide on behalf of Suffolk County Council has been confirmed as good by Ofsted.

“We are really proud that our service plays such a key role in helping adult learners in Suffolk to achieve their learning goals, gain qualifications and progress.”

She added: “We get some great feedback from our learners who clearly enjoy the courses they attend, whether to gain work skills, qualifications in core skills like English and maths or tackling technology.

“I’d like to personally say thank you to the tutors and staff who have made this possible through their hard work and dedication and, of course, congratulate all our learners who have worked so hard to achieve such great results.”

In its report, Ofsted inspectors acknowledged a rise in the achievement rates of adult learners across Suffolk – praising the centres for “excellent examples” of target-setting.

The report said: “Leaders and managers use observations of teaching, learning and assessment well to monitor and improve the quality of provision.

“The process is rigorous and the managers at Realise Futures, who carry out observations, accurately identify teachers’ key strengths and weaknesses.”

Realise Futures deliver the majority of the adult and community learning contract, funded by the Education and Skills Funding Agency.

Last year, the organisation helped 4,000 people aged 19+ in Suffolk to access community learning courses.

It has just launched its new enrolment programme for the summer, with courses covering skills for work, maths and English, computers and technology, health and wellbeing and family learning.

Realise Futures also received a ‘Good’ rating at its last inspection in 2014.
