Members of the Woodbridge Rotary have helped to raise £278,000 by means of a wide variety of activities including golf days, cycle rides and walks since the turn of the century.
Their most recent fundraiser was the annual open-air Carol Service which was held outside the Shire Hall.
£1126 was raised from a bucket collection held at the event which featured festive singing and the arrival of Father Christmas himself.
The money raised since 2000 has gone to a variety of good causes both locally and nationally.
The Alzheimer’s Society, Medicin Sans Frontiers, and Macmillian Cancer Support have all benefitted from the group’s work as well as the town’s Memory Cafe and a number of other local projects.
Felixstowe charity Bike Active received £900 from the club back in November after the success of the clubs’ charity cycle in October.
161 riders took part in an off–road event around Tangham Forest to help the charity which runs cycling experiences for disabled adults.
Margaret Kershaw, speaking on behalf of Woodbridge Rotary said: “This may all sound like really hard work and no fun at all. This could not be further from the truth.
“Raising money is not the prime objective of the club. Fellowship – vital in this “virtual” world – and service to the local community and beyond are the real reasons this group was formed.
“Along the way we have some great fun, try new activities and are often outside our “comfort zone” but it is always worth “giving it a go”!
Members share the fellowship and enjoyment of working as a team, trying different activities, meeting new people, working with charities, schools and many other groups.”
She said that without the support of the generous support of local people they would never have been able to achieve the high figure.
Woodbridge Rotary have regular weekly meetings on Fridays at The Bull Inn in Woodbridge.
Margaret said: “We are really looking forward to a whole host of events etc in 2018.
“We are always on the lookout for possible new members.”
