WHERE were you when the huge storm of 1987 hit the county?

Next month is the 25th anniversary of the drama, which battered the town and surrounding areas, and flattened woodlands across the region.

The Great Storm, as it later became known, occurred overnight on October 15 and 16 and developed from a depression over the Bay of Biscay.

The south of the country was hit the hardest and a massive clear up operation was launched in the days that followed.

Nationally, 18 people died and the clear-up cost topped �1billion

Around 15 million trees were lost and hundreds of thousands of homes were without power for more than 24 hours.

According to the Met Office the last storm of similar magnitude in England occurred in 1703.
