Fraudsters pretending to be BT technicians are reported to have been calling Suffolk households, threatening to cut off their internet.

Suffolk Trading Standards issued a warning to people in the county to be alert to the scam.

“We’ve had reports of Suffolk residents receiving calls from scammers claiming to be from BT, threatening that resident’s internet will be cut off,” a spokesman said.

“If you receive such a call, hang up, wait 10 minutes and call using a number you have located yourself via a recent bill or statement.”
