A UNIQUE, undiscovered county with quiet charm and trusting people with a wonderful sense of humour - these are things that make Suffolk a Curious County, according to you.

The much-debated Curious County campaign, which aims to draw tourists to Suffolk by promoting as a place of curious landmarks and attractions, will be officially launched by Visit Suffolk this week.

Ahead of the launch, we asked users on the hyper-local social networking site streetlife.com to tell us what they thought of the campaign, and whether it inspired their curiousity.

Geoff B supports the marketing campaign and said: “As an outsider but living in Suffolk, I find it a curious and fascinating county. I think back to our first few months when we moved here discovering Aldeburgh, Southwold and the other fabulous beaches that quite frankly I had no idea existed.

“I love Felixstowe and like to walk the prom most Sundays to the market.”

Another Suffolk speciality also caught his attention - our watering holes. He said he enjoyed discovering “the joys of unspoilt village pubs like the Low House at Laxfield”.

Geoff continued: “But the most wonderful thing has been the people of Suffolk. Coming from the midlands the pace of life in the villages and the great trusting people we have met has put my faith back in human kind.

“I think it should be called the undiscovered county.”

Fellow streetlife subscriber Andy A agreed that it is the people of Suffolk that make it unique.

Adding his thoughts, he said: “It is the people that make our county wonderful.

“There is nothing more wonderful or curious even, than the wonderful sense of Suffolk humour.”

Mike F joined the conversation by saying: “I remember the reaction to this slogan, but all the alternatives that people produced seemed rather pallid in comparison.

“I think it is quite a clever choice. Last year or the year before I drove back from the Lake District to find the local paper saying what a tourist attraction Suffolk is.

“But Suffolk has its own quiet charm and the word curious seems to sum it up.

“Incidentally, one writer who caught that evanescent mood, that particular atmosphere was Margery Allingham. Although writing about north Essex, the two counties merge into one in places.”

Zaak D added: “It definitely is. Just digging below the surface brings Romans Hoards and golden Viking tombs.”

Sharing his thoughts, Tom C said: “Suffolk, the most beautiful county in England. There is nowhere else that can compare.

“I’ve travelled a fair few miles in my life, and seen many wonderful places, but to come back here it’s just an unexplainable joy.

“Curious maybe, whatever one may title it, I’m a Suffolk boy and I love it.”
